Whilst having my gym reassessment yesterday the lady was asking me what I eat, I told her that i'd had a hernia operation rather than the band. She thought my diet was pretty good, i've gone from living on carbs to not having many at all and eating mainly protein and vegetables. She was concerned that I only had a protein shake for breakfast though and stressed that it is better to eat, I had porridge this morning, it was ok but a shake works better for me as i'm never hungry and I can just drink it as I shout at the kids to get dressed!
She says that if I have a better breakfast it will speed up my metabolic rate and therefore I will loose more weight, is this true?
I found a dress in my wardrobe, i've had it a year or so but never worn it, I wore it today and got lots of compliments, its a UK 20 (I think a US 16)
Hope that everyone is well x
I love when something from the closet fits again. I know what you mean about the shake, the only thing I really miss with the band is being able to eat in a hurry or on the run for breakfast. You're doing great!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to fit into some of my clothes in my "thin" box. Congrats on the dress.
ReplyDeleteOn the shake side I think it depends on what kind of shake you are doing. If you are doing a low calorie pure protien shake then it probably isn't balanced enough for breakfast (from what I have heard and learned).
ReplyDeleteI was told that I need to have my calories spread out equally throughout the day. So the same calories in the morning as I have in the afternoon and evening. It is help with evening hunger and stimulate the metabolism. It seems strange that eating more in the morning can make you feel more full in the evening but it works. Also, from what I have learned you need a carb/protein balance in the morning. The carbs will help with energy of course and the protein helps balance out your blood sugars.
I still do a protein shake, but I do one with carbs. My shake of choice is high protein slim fast with extra milk. It is about 250 calories. I then do a 100-200 calorie snack about mid morning. This gives me about a 350-450 calorie morning which is about 1/3 of my calories the day.
Hope this helps!
I told my trainer too that I had a hiatus hernia repair and said nothing about the band. I had to lie yesterday and say I couldn't do any abs because I had been vomiting. I actually was sore from being stuck the night before. I also told her I was seeing a doctor for my weight loss and basically didn't say how I ate except I was on 1000-1200 calories. I wouldn't worry about the shake. I do believe if I eat something for breakfast, I don't seem to graze as much and not ravenous by dinner. Eating with the band is different than eating on a diet. I also try to make the 1/3 for each meal-300 for Breakfast, lunch and dinner and then 100-200 cal for snacks. Doesn't always work but I'm losing slowly. Good luck at the gym. It's lots of fun!
