3 days to go!

I know that the titles are getting a little repetitive but crikey, I have 3 days to go!

I sort of feel ok about it now, i'm worried about the pain after the op, not the incision pain (i'm having a single incision) but the trapped wind, it scares me.

Getting home from the hospital was going to be a problem, I live in North Essex and i'm having my op in central London, i'm staying a hotel the night before so getting to the hospital is fine but getting home is a problem. Paul can't come and get me because of the kids, Isobel is at school and we don't know what time i'll be discharged, it would take him around 2 hours to get to the hospital and the same back and traffic could be a problem. George hates the car too so it wouldn't be fun or relaxing! I've booked a taxi to bring me back, feel much happier now that its sorted.

The thing that I have learned today: Putting hot water with a chocolate shake makes it disgusting!
Hope that everyone is well, i'm thrilled with my 9 followers!

  1. I just found out about not being able to put protein powder in hot liquid.. I didn't know this before! No wonder why it all clumped up on me when I put it in my hot chocolate..blech!

Here's the quote from the UNJURY website that informed me about that..

"For all UNJURY flavors, do not use in liquids hotter than 130ยบ F. Proteins, when heated, change texture. For example, you have seen an egg white go from a clear gel, to firm white, when cooked. For UNJURY, in a hot liquid, the proteins tend to clump. A food thermometer is a good way to get the temperature nicely warm...just right."

  2. Don't worry too much, it's just something we have to go through, the gas wasn't that bad. To me, it was just like a bad gassy episode. Walking helped a lot.
I'm glad you have the ride home sorted out. Take a pillow or two to cushion you.

  3. Hello Alison,
I am happy that I have found your blog, it is nice to have some UK followers too. how come do you get a single incision? are you having open surgery? If so they won't fill your belly with gas so you shouldnt suffer as much. It's good that you booked a taxi. I haven;t read all your blog yet as I am in work but I will tonight to follow your story from the start. Don't worry too much about the operation I am sure it will all go fine. and you will be so happy that you have done it after.
    talk to you soon

  5. Thanks for all your comments.

Thanks for the info, Kristen, I never gave it a thought, it was awful.

I will try a pillow with me for the return journey, do you put it between you and the seatbelt?

    Hello Julie, we're almost neighbours!
My surgery is keyhole, they do everything through the same hole, so I should only have one scar, it all sounded very straight forward at my consultation but now I can't remember anything about it!

Good luck for Monday, Jenny, its great to find people being banded at the same time as me.

  7. I'm Follower #16 (Joey sent me your way)! Best of luck to you on your surgery, the band is a great tool! Get as much rest as possible, I know it's not easy with little children. But what you're doing will benefit them for the rest of their lives.

Wow, you have a following! Awesome support. I guess I should rally for some followers myself, I've mainly been talking to myself over there these past two weeks! Best wishes, Cay
